So, a BNP election candidate has been accused of possessing the largest amount of chemical explosives of its type ever found in Britain. The government held a press conference. I read it on the BBC.
The guy was charged under the Explosives Substances Act 1883 last Monday. Another guy has been charged with similar offences. Yeah, I read it in the Guardian.
It has been reported that police discovered a rocket launcher, a nuclear biological suit, chemicals and BNP literature. It was right there in the Independent.
I’m glad to see that our government and corporate media treat all acts of terrorism equally, be they committed by brown people or be they committed by white people.

“Not related to terrorism”? Where did that come from? Maybe the explosives were just for some Halloween high jinks, and the chemical suit for a fancy dress party. And yet Asians can be held for pretty much anything.
The sad thing is that exactly the right amount of fuss was made in this case. This is the amount of news coverage we *should* expect for any person being caught with a rather large haul of dangerous stuff they shouldn’t have, whatever their creed, colour or family origins. To give any more overstates the importance of terrorism, making it seem a more attractive option for those who know they can never win their arguments with reason.
Don’t get me wrong; the media is assuredly guilty of wildly overreacting to / overreporting Asian “terrorists” (for like this guy, they’re *not actually terrorists* until they do something). But not, I believe, of underreporting this. I quite agree that the media shouldn’t hold double standards… but they shouldn’t hold the wrong single standard either. ;)
