Preface

This document explains how to install and configure Prof. Daniel John Bernstein's dns and mail software (daemontools, djbdns, qmail etc.) for RedHat ES 3.0/Fedora. It discusses the use of RPM packages provided by John Leach

Some sections of this document are generic and will also apply to most installations of qmail whether from other RPM packages, Debian packages or compiled directly from source. However, some instructions depend on the installation having particular patches so make sure you have them applied (see Chapter 2, Patches)

This is not an entire step-by-step guide on how to fully setup and manage daemontools, djbdns or qmail. It is assumed that the reader already has some knowledge of using these tools or can learn themselves (see djb's website. However, anything particularly specific to these packages and any cool tips or techniques are explained in detail.

Professor Bernstein is sometimes known for being a rather difficult chap. This is also true for having to type his full name all the time so, for brevities sake, I shall henceforth refer to Prof. Bernstein as djb. If for whatever reason he doesn't like this then tough syncookies.
