I got to wander around Lister’s Mill in Manningham, Bradford on Saturday and took a few photos. It’s currently being converted in to fancy flats.
I grew up in Manningham and have always dreamed of seeing inside the place. The weather was pretty miserable and the light was awful. I’ve arranged to go back in a few weeks when more of the rubble has been moved and the weather is better (hopefully).
The site manager guy I spoke to coincidentally has our family’s old home telephone number as his fax line. I often wondered who’d answer if I called my old phone number. Guess I don’t need to wonder now.

I am researching my family history - and came across your website.
Thank you! my great aunt or perhaps she was my great great aunt worked at Manningham Mills [with her sisters] as a silk spinner
and now thanks to you I have photographs of where she worked>

I (and my brother and sisters) attended Lilycroft School and lived on St Paul’s Road (from age 7 - 19). So I walked past the Mill every day on my way up Oak Lane. The Mill was operating in those days 1959 - 1964. The noise and dirt that went with its processes were an unremarked part of everyday life.
In standard 3 (would be known as Year 5 these days) we went on a tour of the Mill to see it working. Very noisy and very frightening it was too. My father always said that we would have to work in the Mill if we did not study hard at school.
I am so pleased that the Mill is being restored and that it will be part of the regeneration of Manningham.
