E-mail from Jim Thompson:

So ESR is now quoting Caligula:

Oderint, dum metuant: “Let them hate, so long as they fear”.

You could have him say this, and have Linus, RMS or (perhaps best)
Bruce respond (perhaps behind his back)

falsus in uno falsus in omnibus (false in one thing, false in
everything)

In case you don't study Latin, this was a Roman legal principle
indicating that a witness who willfully falsifies one matter is not
credible on any matter. The underlying motive for attorneys to
impeach opposing witnesses in court: the principle discredits the
rest of their testimony if it is without corroboration.

Or 'Vir sapit qui pauca loquitur' (Wise is the person who talks little.)

Optional ESR latin

If you wish for peace, prepare for war. (Si vis pacem, para bellum.)

No one provokes me with impunity. (Nemo me impune lacessit.)

It would definitely take ELER in a highbrow direction.

Script 1

me: high brow my culus

pane 1
eric: Oderint, dum metuan
richard: hmmm. alsus in uno falsus in omnibus

pane 2
eric: Nemo me impune lacessit
linus: Vir sapit qui pauca loquitur

pane 3:
rms, eric, linus in one pane. *eric says nothing*

pane 4:
eric: fuck you guys.
